The village is about 4 miles from Northampton town centre, close to the A45 trunk road which heads east to Wellingborough and Peterborough.
The A45 connects on the south with Junction 15 of the M1 Motorway. The motorway runs along the south-west of the village and a bridge over it connects Collingtree to the adjacent village of Milton Malsor.
There is only one route into and out of Collingtree Village which is along Watering Lane to the link with the A45 at the Hilton Hotel or along Ash Lane/Collingtree Road into Milton Malsor and the A43 Towcester/ Northampton Road.
Central London is some 64 miles to the south and Birmingham is some 64 miles to the north west. This fact was highlighted in a novelty pop song released by the then Development Corporation in the early 1980's 'Sixty miles by road or rail'.
Despite the proximity of major roads, the village retains a distinctly rural atmosphere.
